• Tennoji Temple - This Buddhist temple, dating back to 1274, is located on the edge of Yanaka Cemetery. It features a pleasant garden behind an old wooden gate and houses a bronze Buddhist statue from 1690, affectionately known as “Tennoji no Daibutsu”. It’s a worthwhile stop.
• Yanaka Cemetery - An impressive cemetery covering 100,000 square meters with over 7,000 graves. Despite not being a common tourist route, it’s worth a visit. The cemetery has a history spanning over 100 years since the Meiji Restoration when the government sought to separate Buddhist and Shinto graves. Most graves here are Buddhist, leading to the establishment of this public burial ground in 1871.

  Established to educate future generations about Shitamachi (“Down Town”) culture. Most displayed objects were once used, and you can see houses with furniture and goods in their original locations. Some displays are even touchable. Items change seasonally, offering repeat visitors a glimpse into the seasonal variations of Shitamachi life.
• Edokoro Alan West - 【Afternoon tour only】
  Located in traditional old town Tokyo, surrounded by Buddhist temples, this studio of Alan West was once an auto body garage and is now the only traditional Japanese painting studio open to the public. Alan West, originally from the US, moved to Tokyo after graduating from Carnegie-Mellon University. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Japanese painting from Tokyo University of the Arts.
