- Tennoji Temple - This Buddhist temple, dating back to 1274, is located on the edge of Yanaka Cemetery. It features a pleasant garden behind an old wooden gate and houses a bronze Buddhist statue from 1690, affectionately known as “Tennoji no Daibutsu”. It’s a worthwhile stop.
- Yanaka Cemetery - An impressive cemetery covering 100,000 square meters with over 7,000 graves. Despite not being a common tourist route, it’s worth a visit. The cemetery has a history spanning over 100 years since the Meiji Restoration when the government sought to separate Buddhist and Shinto graves. Most graves here are Buddhist, leading to the establishment of this public burial ground in 1871.
