• Mercado Central Antigua Guatemala - Head to the Comedores (food area) inside the market to savor Pepian, Joc’on, and Pulique sauce with avocado and tortilla. Discover the history and preparation of these delectable dishes. Outside the market, visit the candy stand to try traditional Guatemalan sweets like Tamarindo balls with sugar, Guava sweets, and Canillitas de Leche. The candy stand offers treats influenced by Spanish culture, which introduced sugar cane to the region.
• Iglesia de la Merced - The La Merced street food market is a must-visit. Located outside Iglesia de la Merced, it is one of Antigua’s most popular food markets, offering some of the best street food amidst locals. Sample Hot Chocolate (the ancient Mayans revered the cacao tree) or traditional Atol (a hot drink made from corn or seeds) paired with Rellenitos (plantain flour filled with sweet bean sauce and fried). Also, try Tostadas with guacamole or beans with tomato sauce.
• Arch Street - Conclude the tour with a short 5-minute walk to Arco Street and visit Hugo’s Ceviches.
