We were truly amazed by... - We were truly amazed by the quality of this trip. The guides really went out of their way to make it an unforgettable experience for everyone. The instructions given the day before were clear and helpful, the equipment they provided for us to borrow was of good quality, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Highly recommended!

Volcano Tour - It was difficult but beautiful! The final summit to the top was extremely cold and windy and rainy. Bring nice gloves and wear proper hiking shoes and appropriate socks!

Absolutely incredible... - Absolutely incredible experience. The hike is very challenging, especially if you don’t want a porter to carry your luggage, but it is worth it. The views are amazing and we were looked after extremely well.

We did it!!! - Excellent experience! We were blessed with magical views of Fuego at the top! For any level of fitness Tropicana are perfect, with breaks every 30 minutes for the duration of the climb. For a person with a high level of fitness, this may be a bit slow, but for the majority of people, Tropicana were excellent. Tropicana provided plenty of water, plenty of food, great nourishment, and comfortable accommodation at base camp. It does get very cold at base camp, so pack as much warm clothes as you can.

Incredible hike! Wonderful going with OX - 10/10 Experience with OX Expeditions! I'm a solo gal traveling from Los Angeles, and I wanted to do the Acatenango hike and I'm so glad I booked it. I carried my own pack, did the Fuego Ridge hike, and the Summit hike - and I was so thankful OX provided gear at no extra cost because I definitely needed it. There's a lot of different things online about difficulty, so I'll just share my experience here (as someone who hikes a decent amount and has done week-long backpacking trips). What to bring/rent/have: - Hiking shoes (this is a must in my opinion. Don't do this hike in running shoes if you can avoid it. I almost did, and I am SO glad I didn't) - Hiking poles (this climb is steep, rocky, and you're hiking in the dark for fuego ridge and the summit) - Hand warmers and double gloves (I brought 2 pairs of gloves and I wish I would've brought hand warmers. When you summit in the morning, it is freezing...I would've paid top dollar for a handwarmer at 3:30 am in the morning) - Daypack (after we made it to basecamp, I switched to my daypack for the Fuego Ridge and Summit hikes and I was SO happy to shed the weight. I was so glad I brought this) - OX provides gloves, fleece, down jacket, beanie, headlamp, rain poncho, pack - I would take it all unless you're bringing really good gear. I had a patagonia down jacket and decided last minute to just use there's and I'm glad I did - it was way better) - Nice to haves: coffee creamer in the morning (if that's your thing), fresh pair of socks for day 2, earplugs for sleeping in cabins, snacks + electrolytes, portable charger Overall, don't miss this hike! It's one of the best things I did in Guatemala and couldn't have been happier with the experience.

The view was worth it! - An early start on both days, tough climbs in steep x as be sandy terrain, brutally cold winds towards the dark and dreary summit. Worth it? Absolutely!! The guides were top notch, the food was fantastic as were the cabins. An amazing overnight trip, all told.

Great - Amazing experience, a really good vibe in the group and really nice to climb the mountain. Although the fuego wasn’t errupting as we expected, it was still worth it and still the highlight of our vacation. The guide was very nice and realistic, he made sure everyone made it to the summit safely and he was honest when it wasn’t safe. For example: when the weather was too bad, you couldn’t see anything or when he noticed you couldn’t keep up with the group due to your physical condition, you had to stay down for safety reasons. Your physical condition doesn’t need to be on point, any average person can reach the summit. Also the company is very professional and climate friendly and it has its own challenges for the people who like to take it to the next level. Overall great experience, would recommend to do it with OX expeditions.

Great hike - Great hike, intermediate level. Unique nature, great to be so close to an active volcano. Weather is not predictable, we had a great sunset but no view of the Acatenango in the morning. Pro: - Communication - Info about Tour (pdf) - Food - View from Basecamp - Material - Checkpoint (good thing, because if you can't do that, you won't have a chance on this tour) Con: - Rather expensive (100 + 42 USD for Fuego) - Large group (24) - Wc not really usable in camp - Something personal: I forgot to pack my sandwich, that's of course my mistake, but the guides didn't care, luckily someone from the group shared with me.

- I was very disappointed with the guides on this hike. For context, I’ve completed other multi-day hikes at much higher elevations, where the guides were consistently excellent. On this hike, however, the guides would not allow slightly slower hikers to complete the Fuego portion, and in the morning, they made half of the group turn back before reaching the Acatenango summit—only to later comment on how fast the group was. They appear to lack professionalism in how they handle criticism, as reflected in their responses to any negative feedback I want to make it clear that unless you are a top-level athlete, you should reconsider using Ox Expeditions. They seem to have unrealistic expectations of the average person's ability and offer little support for those who don’t meet them. Maybe an adjustment to their website to reflect this is necessary.
