The coolest experience ever - This was the reason we traveled to Guatemala and it did not disappoint. The guides were extremely helpful and told us everything the day before departure. Everything was extremely organized and they provided a lot of necessary gear. The hike was challenging, but the views were incredible. I opted to do the option harder hike to Fuego, which was well worth it. Seeing the eruption closer and on top of the clouds. We stayed in tiny cabins (a little crammed) that had the best view of the volcano. Food was good and it was an exceptional trip. Will definitely recommend them to anyone looking to hike Acatenango.

Unforgettable, must-do experience - This was an absolutely unforgettable experience, and it couldn’t have been better. We had phenomenal guides, a great group and everyone was such a delight along the entire trek. The company had a very helpful information session before the hike and was flexible with allowing you to upgrade your hike and add the Fuego ridge trail during your hike if you felt up to it. I’m so glad we added Fuego once we felt good about the hike’s progress and that we got up before dawn to summit Acetenango. It’s a tough journey, you should have very sturdy boots and rent walking sticks/coats/warm gear to make it much more manageable. The first part is HARD, even as a very physically strong and athletic person. I truly can’t recommend this tour and this company enough for such an amazing experience.

The hike up the volcano - Ox provided the preperation and the confidence to make the Acatenango hike a succes. No (wo)man was left behind as we reached basecamp middle in the afternoon. Even during the steepest parts up we could always rely on the guides for information, support or just a chat. Both fuego and the summit are a must do, and in my personal opinion OX is the company to do them with. Cheers to Philipe

Guide For The Moderately Active Person - 💪🏽🧘🏾‍♂️ 🌋 🌲 •Read the pdf provided by Ox. •Attend the meeting. •Take all the gear they offer. Better safe than sorry. •Carry plenty of cash. •Absolutely get a porter going up. This is not the Amazing Race. It’s vacation, enjoy the hike. (: •Take the hiking sticks. •Ankle wraps/support were my preventative measure. 100% recommend. •Yoga breaths or calm breathing helps pace the body. •Mint gum helps with motion sickness. •Based on my group of 30. Fuego no, morning hike yes. I did neither and still enjoyed a beautiful view of the spouting volcano. •This is a difficult hike but worth it. Be prepared and remember to find joy in it, it’s not everyday you get to experience an active volcano. 🌋😍

Hard but worth it - Guides were patient and the porters were always there if needed. The campsite was clean and they had all the equipment needed, if you didn’t have any.

Hard, but worth it! - I am NOT a hiker by any means, so this was not an easy hike for me, but I finished it and I’m so glad I did! The views of Fuego are something I’ll never forget. I’m so glad we chose Ox for this experience! They had all the necessary gear at no extra charge. The cabins looked way more comfortable/ warm than any of the other accommodations we saw. It is very cold at the top so don’t skip the warm layers, you need them!

Verify the quality of your operator before dropping $100 USD - Sleeping bags are not appropriate for the temps, and some are faulty. Fuego look out should not be an extra $40 USD. Felt like a cash grab. Should just be included in the price. Equipment lended is a lost and found, also of questionable quality. If you have any experience in the hiking realm it seems like a guide isn’t needed. With that being said, Food was great, volcano is awesome, and for the sake of simplicity 100 dollars (without Fuego lookout) is not a bad price for transport, a guide, sleeping accommodation, and 4 meals. Volcano is a must do, just do some research into other companies.
