A Wonderful Experience - This is my third food tour using WithLocals, and Marten did not disappoint. In fact, I've decided that with every new city I visit, I will have to book a tour! Marten's love of his country and his city were evident during this three-hour tour. He helped us understand how Amsterdam has been influenced by a melting pot of cultures and cuisines, and he shared tidbits about the country's social systems, the way it embraces multiculturalism, and strives to support families and the environment. Along the way, I fell in love with this vibrant, cosmopolitan city. We tried some tasty treats, including locally produced cheeses, herring from a long-time fish vendor, stroopwafels made as we watched, and Suranamese food at family-owned restaurant. We strolled through the Pijp district, the Albert Cuyp market, and local parks. Food was part of the tour, but Marten made it so much more than just a food tour. I would highly recommend this experience. (Note: This was for a trip I took in May 2019, but I was recently reminded of the wonderful experience and decided to post here.)

Excellent foodie experience with a great host - Fusina was a lovely, interesting guide and generous with her time. We met at her flat near the Amstel and had a cheese tasting and made Dutch pancakes followed by a visit to an organic market and tried fresh herring (surprisingly nice). We then tried deep fried beef balls followed by freshly cooked waffles. We had an interesting tour and walk after and Fusina sent us some ideas for our following days. This tour was taken August 2019

Amsterdam Food experience - Fusina provided a local tour of eateries, in which we tasted a variety of famous Dutch foods from salted herring to the best waffles in Amsterdam. Fusina is very passionate about consuming natural foods and shared her knowledge of where to buy fresh food. We thoroughly enjoyed the tasty delights on Fusina's tour.

Marten is a great guide - We wish we had been able to schedule this tour when we first arrived in Amsterdam so we could have gone back to several of the places Marten took us. Who knew Suranam and Indonesian Food we’re so much a part of Dutch culture? All wonderful food adventures. Marten is a bright, energetic, knowledgeable gentleman who quickly felt like an old friend. As we walked through neighborhoods we never would have seen on our own we talked politics, families, travel and food. If you’re looking for a personal culinary tour in Amsterdam book with Marten.

withlocals - great experience - My husband and I had a walking tour with Marten. He connected with us on time. We had a very pleasant three hours learning about Amsterdam, the evolution of the city and along with that the evolution of its food culture. Marten brought the city to life with his explanations. We ate some foods we had not tried before, and saw areas of the city that we may not have seen otherwise. Martin also had tips and ideas about other things to see and do during our stay. A pleasant day with a charming and pleasant host. Reason not ten hearts out of ten - I just never give full stars to anyone including myself. Great tour Marten, and we enjoyed the day tremendously Lynne and Dean.

Beer and Bites - We thoroughly enjoyed our Beer and Bites walking tour with Ente. Met us on time at the appointed meeting place and started with a brief history of Amsterdam. He pointed out unique architectural features and history of buildings as we walked through the Jordaan neighborhood. The two cafes we stopped at where filled with locals and we enjoyed the cheese selection at one and the Bitterballen at the other. This was a great warm up to our four day stay in Amsterdam.

Guide was a no show - Guide never showed up. We waited at the meeting place for a while, in cold rain but he was a no show. We called the number on the ticket but got a voicemail. Still waiting on Viator to reply to my email about a refund.
