Dutch culture explained as we saw the sights of old Amsterdam - David was “friendly and fun”, as advertised. His walking tour brought us to many sights of the old city of Amsterdam. David emphasized how the sights illustrated aspects of Dutch culture, which was very interesting. For example, we saw a beautiful courtyard of buildings that have provided housing to needy single women for hundreds of years. David explained that the Dutch attitude is “we are in this together.” Originally, this social service was run by the church but now the government runs it. In the red light district, he pointed out that the district is changing over to boutique shops to cater to a broader base of visitors. David explained that the Dutch have been worldwide traders for hundreds of years. We visited a building built in 1480 that was a weigh station - goods shipped to Amsterdam from around the world were weighed before being sold. Now that building is a cafe/bar where we stopped for refreshments. Of course, we saw beautiful canals and buildings but David usually had a story behinds what we saw. He also gave us great tips on bars, cafes and other places to visit while we are in Amsterdam. This was a most enjoyable tour!

Great tour with David - David did an informative and frequently amusing tour. It was a group of only 12 people, so easy to move about - and avoid bicycles! - highly recommended!

Perfect three hour intro to Amterdam, and it will leave you smiling - David provides a lovely and big hearted introduction to Amsterdam, filled with stories and history to provide you with context and cultural connection as you explore the city. While not native to the Netherlands, David's passion and joy for the country and Amsterdam shine through. He is fun and funny...and he is a fabulous photographer...so he will capture all those special pictures of you beautifully. We booked him for a second private tour of the museums as well. Highly recommend!

Enjoyable walking tour of Amsterdam city centre - David was an engaging and informative guide. We really enjoyed his sense of humor and the stories he told along the route. The pace was right for our small group tour of Amsterdam city Center. We took the time to stop for ice cream and coffee breaks.
