A Warm Welcome to Jordan

As I stepped off the plane at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, the early morning air was crisp and filled with anticipation. My journey to Jordan was about to begin, and I was greeted by Emad, our guide, who stood with a welcoming smile and a sign bearing my name. His warmth and humor immediately put me at ease, setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable exploration of this ancient land.

Our first day was spent in Amman, where the bustling city life contrasted beautifully with the serene landscapes we would soon encounter. The Big Benn Hotel, our home for the night, offered a comfortable stay with friendly staff who made us feel right at home. As I settled into my room, I couldn’t help but reflect on the journey ahead, filled with historical wonders and cultural treasures.

Journey Through Time

The next few days were a whirlwind of history and culture, as we traveled from Amman to Ajloun, Jerash, and beyond. Ajloun Castle, with its medieval Arab military architecture, stood as a testament to the region’s rich history. The lush greenery surrounding the castle provided a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.

Jerash, with its Greco-Roman ruins, was a highlight of the trip. Walking through the ancient city, I felt a deep connection to the past, as if the stones themselves whispered stories of bygone eras. The Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts, though not in season during our visit, was a reminder of the vibrant cultural life that continues to thrive in this historic city.

Our journey continued to Madaba, known as the “City of Mosaics,” where the intricate Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics told stories of faith and artistry. Standing atop Mount Nebo, I gazed out at the breathtaking views of the Dead Sea, Bethlehem, and Jerusalem, feeling a profound sense of peace and reflection.

Desert Dreams and Sea Breezes

The desert landscapes of Wadi Rum were unlike anything I had ever seen. Known as the “Valley of the Moon,” this vast expanse of red sand and towering rock formations felt otherworldly. Our jeep tour through the desert was a thrilling adventure, culminating in a stunning sunset that painted the sky in hues of orange and pink.

Our stay at a Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum was a cultural immersion like no other. The traditional Bedouin dinner, cooked in the sand, was a culinary delight, and the night sky, filled with stars, was a sight to behold. Upgrading to a bubble dome tent was a decision I would never regret, offering a private view of the desert’s beauty.

Finally, we reached Aqaba, Jordan’s gateway to the Red Sea. The vibrant beach town offered a refreshing change of pace, and our glass-bottom boat tour revealed the colorful underwater world of coral and tropical fish. As we made our way back to Amman, I reflected on the journey, grateful for the experiences and the people who made it so memorable.

This 8-day tour of Jordan was more than just a trip; it was a journey through time, culture, and natural beauty. From the ancient ruins of Jerash to the serene waters of the Dead Sea, every moment was a reminder of the rich tapestry of history and tradition that defines this remarkable country.
