Join our small group tour to experience the camaraderie and thrill of hunting for the Northern Lights amidst the stunning landscapes of the Altafjord. Since 2007, we have been organizing guided tours and possess the expertise to locate the Northern Lights when conditions are favorable. On our tours, there is typically an 80-90% chance of witnessing this breathtaking phenomenon. Each tour is unique, as we strive to find the best location with the highest likelihood of seeing the lights. This sometimes requires extensive driving, while other times the lights are found nearby. The driving distance determines whether we set up a campfire or serve hot chocolate and snacks during a brief stop. While enjoying the great outdoors, we will share local stories about Norwegian life, local history from the Stone Age, Sami culture, reindeer herding, World War II, and modern society in Alta. We usually return just after midnight.
- Minimum age of 12 years
- Choose Alta Havn (Alta Harbour) as your pick up place if you are coming to Alta by cruise ship. Our guide will be there looking for you at the parking place with a black minibus.
- If your ship has a different time schedule than our tour, please contact us and we try to adapt to you.

If you are driving your own or rental car, we can meet at our office at 8:00 pm. Our office is located in Komsaveien 2, 9511 Alta. There we have free and safe parking place for your car. Wait for us patiently if any delay with pick up of other clients.

Unforgettable Northern Lights Tour - My family went on a Northern Lights tour with Alta Adventures in mid-December--a truly wonderful experience! From the start, the team was extremely responsive and accommodating when our group reached out for an amended tour. The warmth and enthusiasm of our guide Steven Toogood also cannot be overstated! Steven made our tour a memorable and enjoyable adventure with facts about the aurora, stories from the surrounding areas, hot drinks, and plenty of opportunities for photos. His dedication to finding the lights and making our chase special was so appreciated. A huge thank you to Steven and the team!

The only Northern Light Tour for those’d wanting a personal experience - We found this trip outstanding, our guide Steven Toogood making it a highlight of our holiday. Quality warm clothing and boots were included in the price and at a temperature of -21 very welcome and necessary. Steven was very knowledgeable about the area, friendly and attentive, making sure we each felt involved and guided/helped us throughout to get the best photos. We went to 4 areas of outstanding beauty in our hunt for the lights and even though a full moon hindered what would of otherwise been a perfect night sky; we achieved some gorgeous photos and had a really “bucket list” evening.

A Night to Remember - Our guides were absolutely amazing! They were so passionate about the Northern Lights and helping us find them. They took us to a lake and the views were just out of this world. My coworkers and friends were so jealous of the pictures we had taken! Most of all our guides were friendly people to begin with, so even if we didn't see the lights, the nightly adventure would have still be splendid. Highly recommend!

A magical local experience! - A fantastic experience from start to finish! We were met by Stig next to the cruise terminal who took us back to the base to wrap up in warm clothing. Dia and Max met us there and were our guides for the evening. Dia was incredibly knowledgeable about the local area and explained lots of different sites as we drove past. We were very fortunate to spot the Northern lights early in our trip and they took us to a secluded spot to get some great photos. Being a small group we had the opportunity to visit a couple more locations that a coach wouldn’t have been able to see. It was an amazing experience and Max and Dia couldn’t have been more helpful with spotting the lights and helping with photos. We also enjoyed a hot chocolate around a campfire with some delicious pastries which just added to the experience. This was far better value than excursions booked through the cruise and a far more personal experience, we’d highly recommend!

It was a night we will remember for the rest of our lives!!! - Diamela, Stig and their team could not have done anymore to make our trip memorable. We travelled with Dia and her love and passion for Norway and the Northern Lights was truly special. We saw so many Auroras and they knew just where to find them. They kept us warm, yummy hot chocolate and the pastries were to die for, and a special pat with their husky. A truly special excursion.

Awesome northern lights tour - Amazing northern lights hunting with Dia. Pick up from the hotel and others straight to the office and set off after the briefing. Dia is friendly and taking good care of us. We went to 4 spots and lucky enough to see her appeared at the first spot.

Best Northern Lights Tour in Norway! - My best friend and I were in Norway for the first time and could not have chosen a better tour!
Stig and Dia were absolutely fantastic tour guides and told us so much about Alta, Norway, the Sami People and the Northern Lights. Both did their best to find the perfect spot for the Northern Lights. When we saw them, we stood excited and amazed under the green sky and watched the movements of the Northern Lights. Such a special and beautiful experience that we will not forget anymore! Thanks Dia and Stig for this great tour!

A Disorganized, Unprofessional Tour and a Waste of Money - I booked the Northern Lights tour with Alta Adventures hoping for a magical New Year's Eve experience, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The entire evening felt unorganized and rushed. Despite being advertised as a 4-hour tour, the "guide" dropped us off at the hotel lobby before midnight, cutting the experience short.
To make matters worse, heavy cloud cover meant we didn’t even get a glimpse of the Northern Lights. While I understand the weather is unpredictable, there was no backup plan or effort to make the evening special. Everyone on the tour seemed just as disappointed.
What made the experience even worse was the complete lack of information. The guide didn’t tell us anything about the Northern Lights or about Alta itself. In other reviews, he mentions that it depends on the interest of the group, but that’s complete nonsense. In the bus, you could barely communicate with the front, so it was impossible to get any details unless you were sitting near the front. A more professional company— which this is not—would have ensured that everyone received the necessary information without having to ask for it.
After dropping us off at the hotel lobby, the guide told us to go outside and see the fireworks. It felt incredibly disrespectful.
For next time, I will book activities with a more established company to ensure a better-organized and more professional experience. This was, by far, the worst tour experience and guide I’ve ever had. A complete waste of money. I can’t recommend this tour to anyone, especially for such an important occasion like New Year's Eve.

Be careful, read my review- not to be trusted! Didn't came to pick us as planned. - No Experience, they just "Forget" to pick us from the point that was mentioned.
Listen,I have made a lot, really a lot of Travels with Viator, since I really experienced, I always double check before. And in the same day at noon i wrote them via viator chat , just to verifyone one more time( the pick-up should be at 8pm at Alta Havn for cruise ship- it all written in my previous talk to them)
but no answer to my massage. ( they did answer me in the past) We'll i went to the pick up point anyway ,at time ,we were waiting for 1 hour! During this hour, i masseged them few times, called via WhatsApp to their number, That was given in company details.
text to their company whatapp-and nothing! No response
So i use the chat with the viator support team ,the viator man checked all the previous writing with them , he tried to call them too and no answer for him too- So he immediately start to process of a full refund.
And was very sorry for that.
But it's not about the money, you are not visiting in winter so north "often" ,so if they don't come, you have no other option do to at 21pm- so it's destroy your evening.
It's been 3 days since that happen, still not even one response from them !! ( and we did chat on viator support few time before the trip- so it really easy to reach me, i have internet all the time and can see and massage that come via viator )
well, maybe the tour is great, maybe it's not , it's also a matter of luck with Aurura. But there few companies that do that tour so Try to choose one you can trust on it. Not this one!
I wonder if they finally will reply here,to my review, and see how to you, they will try to explain. But I did everything right. ( so I hope so will not try to say I wasn't in the pick-up area- or something like that)
