• Pompey’s Pillar - Begin your private tour to Alexandria from Cairo at 7:00 am with a pickup from your hotel by our Egyptologist. Travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle to Alexandria, located 220 km northwest of Cairo. Arrive in Alexandria around 9:30 am, after a 2.5-hour journey. The tour starts with Pompey’s Pillar.

Despite its name, it has no connection to Pompey. The name originates from the belief that it was the burial site of the Roman general who fled to Egypt and was assassinated after losing a significant battle in Greece against Caesar. The red granite column was likely erected to honor Emperor Diocletian. Today, it stands 25 meters tall and is the highest ancient monument in Alexandria.

• Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa - Visit the Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa, where Roman and ancient Egyptian art blend seamlessly. This is the most renowned tomb in Alexandria, featuring a unique three-level design. Archaeologists believe the catacombs were initiated in the 2nd century A.D. and used for burials over the next 200 years, during a time when Alexandria was a melting pot of cultures, alongside the ancient history of the Egyptian kingdoms.

• Ancient Roman Amphitheater - Next, visit the Roman Theater, constructed from marble stones with a large mosaic section on the floor. Walk by the excavation site of the Old Roman City of Alexandria, including Roman villas, the Amphitheater Ruins, Alexandria’s Great Tomb excavation site, and various ruins. Note that the tour will not include interior visits, but the guide will provide insights into their historical importance from the outside.

• Mansheya - Continue the tour through the oldest market area in Mansheya, exploring the traditional women’s markets (zan’et etsetat) with their narrow streets. The gold market is also here, where people purchase wedding and engagement jewelry.

• Mosque of Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi - The vehicle will then take you to the city’s most beautiful and largest mosque for a photo stop at the Abbo Elabbas Mosque. Walk by Egypt’s oldest funfair.

• Fort Qaitbey - Visit Qaitbey Citadel and enjoy a leisurely walk along the Corniche. Across from the Corniche is the old harbor, where you can see traditional fishing boats, fishermen, and net makers. The photos here are stunning. Continue to view the exterior of Quaitbay Castle, built on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. This spectacular castle is a fantastic photo opportunity.

• Bibliotheca Alexandria - Visit the Library of Alexandria, the largest library in the world, housing 8 million books. Explore the President Sadat Museum and the open court, where statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I, discovered underwater nearby, are displayed. The guide will explain the library’s design from the outside, with opportunities for photo stops. Note: The Alexandria Library is closed on Fridays, Saturdays, and public holidays. A ticket is required to enter the reading area.
