Trip to Alexandria ruined - Mahmoud the driver 5 stars. 6 stars! He was Amazing. Our tour guide Eslam Maher tho.. not so much. It was a disaster story, from the moment he opened my door without knocking on the window or anything mid traffic. Up until we canceled our last site to see. This man was a nightmare. First we went into the catacombs. Where at first Eslam was guiding us properly. That quickly changed. He started making jokes such as “Jump from this window to that window it’s a tradition.” He was referring to the pit where bodies are transported down. I actually thought that was somewhat funny. Until it continued. While showing us a display of bones I was paying attention but my wife was looking at the wall behind us. He called her by her name with a rude tone “Aerianne PAY ATTENTION!” She instantly corrected him and told him if she wishes to glance into another direction briefly she will do so. I also corrected him telling him it was disrespectful. He apologized and said “It is different culture and I didn’t mean it.” Implying in his culture women must always pay attention when being spoken to. He asked me what he did wrong. I explained that my wife isn’t going to follow every single word he’s saying from start to finish and from time to time will tune in and out and back in again.. I explained further that he is being too controlling and demanding every ounce of attention. He laid off a bit after that. Only to follow it up with an explanation and apology at every single stop we made. Like as if us mentioning kindly to not be so pushy, was plaguing him the entire rest of the tour. He constantly looked upset and wouldn’t drop it. More jokes were being made at the Alexandria Library. “Oh Marlon I make you mad so I go home now and meet with my girlfriend.” “This is the train station of Alexandria, I will use it to go home now because I make a mistake.” We didn’t not find that funny. I told him I was not mad at him and that he already corrected his mistake. He wouldn’t let it go. Then we got to the 3rd stop to eat where Eslam started brown nosing. Attempting to make up for it all by constantly getting up from the table and harassing the waitstaff for our food and for drink refills. Going up to the expo line and talking to the cooks through the window. Our server and the manager seemed so annoyed. We didn’t ask for that. We would have waited patiently. We canceled the tour early to head back to Cairo. As Mahmoud was pulling up the car Eslam pleaded and begged me not to leave a review as this would be his 3rd and final complaint before losing his job… guilt tripping me on top of it all. My wife was fed up and so was I. Once we returned home our agent contacted us saying Mahmoud mentioned we didn’t have a good time. We explained all of the above just to receive a message from Eslam saying we are liars. I think the man needs some serious social skill development. I speak for both my wife and I, our trip to Alexandria was absolutely ruined by this man.
