A Journey Through the Turkish Countryside

As a seasoned traveler and surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the ocean’s rhythm, but every now and then, the call of the mountains and rivers beckons. This time, it was the allure of the Sapadere Canyon in Alanya that caught my attention. The day began with a friendly pick-up right outside my hotel. Our ride? A Cabrio bus, which is essentially a van without a roof, perfect for soaking in the sun and the sights. With about 14 fellow adventurers, we set off on a journey that promised both fun and a touch of the unexpected.

The drive took us through the motorway and then onto the charming country roads, weaving through small villages and lush agricultural lands. A quick stop by a banana plantation offered a stunning view of the coastal strip and the mountains beyond. It was a photographer’s dream, and I couldn’t resist capturing the moment. The journey was not just about the destination but the experiences along the way. A spontaneous water fight between the buses added a splash of excitement, quite literally. Even the locals joined in, making it a memorable ride.

Discovering the Canyon’s Charm

Our next stop was a small cave, which, while not the most impressive I’ve seen, offered a brief respite and a chance to indulge in some Turkish coffee. The real highlight, however, was the Sapadere Canyon itself. Despite visiting in the off-season, the place was bustling with tourists. The walk along the canyon was a delightful experience, with the sound of waterfalls echoing through the air. The pools, though inviting, were a chilly 8°C, a bit too refreshing for my taste.

The canyon, while developed for tourism, still held a certain charm. The natural beauty was undeniable, and the walk was a pleasant escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As someone who thrives on the tranquility of the ocean, the canyon offered a different kind of peace, one that resonated with the adventurer in me. The only downside was the crowd, but that’s a small price to pay for such a beautiful experience.

A Taste of Tradition

The final stop of the tour was at the River Cafe, a unique dining experience that I hadn’t anticipated. Sitting on cushions in small carpeted enclosures over the river, we were treated to a traditional meal. As a vegetarian, I was delighted with the array of Turkish dips, salads, beans, and lentils. My partner opted for the trout, which was equally delicious. The setting was serene, and the sound of the river added to the ambiance.

The tour wrapped up with a short ride back to the resort, and by the end of the day, I was left with a collection of memories and a few photos and videos to cherish. The Sapadere Canyon tour was a delightful detour from my usual oceanic adventures, offering a blend of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and a touch of fun. It’s a trip I’d recommend to anyone looking to explore the diverse landscapes of Turkey. Just remember to bring a towel for the water fight!
