Highlights
  • Skanderbeg Square - Originally designed by Italian architect A. Brasini before World War II, Skanderbeg Square has hosted statues of Stalin, Skanderbeg, and Enver Hoxha, but today only the Skanderbeg statue remains. This tour will reveal how the square has evolved to its current modern appearance through numerous changes over the centuries.
  • Clock Tower - Completed in 1822, the Tirana Clock Tower is one of the oldest structures in the city, dating back to the late Ottoman period.
  • Rruga Murat Toptani - The pedestrian path “Murat Toptani” holds historical significance and can be seen as a natural, museum, and historical gallery. It passes by several monumental artifacts, including the Fortress of Tirana, the Academy of Sciences headquarters, the country’s first national park, the old National Library, and the former Political Persecutor’s Building, ending at Tanners Bridge. Along the way, you’ll also find new tourist spots like Kalaja e Tiranes, the National Gallery of Arts, and the Residence of the Albanian Royal Family.
  • Fortress of Justinian - Known as Kalaja e Tiranës, Tirana’s Castle is a modern tourist destination located on Toptani Pedestrian Street.
  • Deshmoret E Kombit Boulevard - Armando Brasini designed the boulevard with a grand European Renaissance style, while Gherardio Bosio added European splendor and neoclassical utilitarian buildings. Mussolini himself took an interest in the project, calling both architects to special audiences to report on its progress. Our local guide will provide more insights…
  • Blloku - Known as Ish-Blloku or simply Blloku, this upscale area in Tirana is famous for its boutiques, shops, restaurants, trendy bars, pubs, and cafes. Once a restricted residential area for the Albanian politburo during the communist era, it became a popular entertainment destination after the fall of Communism. You can still see the residence of Albania’s communist leader Enver Hoxha in Blloku.
  • Enver Hoxha Pyramid - Inaugurated in 1988 as the Enver Hoxha Museum, this structure served as a heritage museum for Enver Hoxha until 1991. Resembling an Egyptian pyramid, it reveals the shape of a communist star from above. The renewed construction will surprise you today…

Great experience of walking in Tirana - Taulant was our guide and we spent a really interesting three hours with him. The booking and meeting instructions were very clear and he was careful to keep us in the shade when possible. We had a coffee together and he recommended some shops and restaurants. As we walked, he talked about the history of Albania and was clearly passionate about his job. We loved the vibrant market and the secret statues. Highly recommended.
