EXTRA FEES. Otherwise good. Read description - First of all, this was a successful layover and I’m glad I did this. I read MANY reviews beforehand, compared Uber and other Taxi services and thought I’d try this option. All in all Imm happy and everything worked out, BUT there are a few good-to-knows I’d like to share for all potential travelers.
Background:
We had approximately 10 hours of layover. This is more than enough. I’d say anything under 7 is cutting it close though.
Total cost per person: $50-$60
$8 Viator trip (paid online)
$25 Egypt Visa (card or cash)
$15 Entry to Giza Pyramids area (card ONLY)
$15 Extra fee for airport transport (cash)
The standard fee only includes transport to hotels, they will probably charge you $15 extra if you come from the airport and go back (only once, so NOT $15 for pickup and $15 for drop-off)
Since I traveled with my mom, the $15 were effectively split, so price per person was 8+25+15+7,5 = $55,5.
The Visa is available inside the airport, before the pass control on the right side, there are two “Bank” counters which sell the Visas. You need them to exit the building, even for a few hours.
You also need a “departure card”, but no-one could help me with that while leaving. We got ours at the checkin/baggage-drop off counters on our way back. Just account for waiting time if theres a queue, even if you don’t have drop-off bags.
Our trip:
Arrival: 08:30
Departure 18:50
We landed at 08:30.
Got our Visas
Got cash at an ATM in the hall before exiting the building.
Leave airport: 9:15/9:30
Drive to pyramids, arrival: 10:30
Before getting there, there’s a Service/Petrol station where you can buy coffee, snacks, go to the toilet… just as the driver.
Then you’ll arrive at the pyramids.
You’ll habe to go through a security check after buying the entry tickets. 11:00.
Then you’re at the 2 big pyramids. Take photos there. Follow the road between the pyramids to the third one a bit further up. Take more photos. Then you’ll see a place with many camels. Here you can hire a Camel ride or a horse-cart. These can take you to another panaramic point where you see all pyramids aligned. Will cost around 200-300 EGP, so $5-$6 (Feb2025).
13:00 drive down to the Sphinx and take photos.
13:15 left the area
We visited the Alsaray restaurant, which is a boat on the Nile, on the way back to the airport and ate Buffet for $15 each. Not a must-do, but the food was good, we were hungry and wanted to see the Nile a bit.
We drove back through downtown and hit traffic. Either route you take, make sure to calculate 1.5 hours just to be safe. Probably will be faster though.
We gave our driver the cash we had left over as a tip.
We didn’t enter the pyramids. If you want to, you buy the tickets where you also buy the Entry Tickets to the area. Google the Giza Pyramids website for exact prices.

Enjoyable tour if you have limited time - The tour was exactly as advertised, and the communication with the agency was excellent from the moment my booking was confirmed until the driver picked me up at the airport. Both the driver and the guide were courteous and professional. As a solo traveler, I appreciated their kindness. Although the driver spoke limited English, it wasn’t an issue—he kept the atmosphere great with great Egyptian music. The car was a standard vehicle, so don’t expect anything luxurious.
The tour itself was well-organized, I had enough time for photos and exploring. They took me to the best spots for stunning views of the pyramids and the Sphinx. Entering the pyramid is not included in the tour price, they help you buy the ticket and wait for you outside. The food at the restaurant was good with the view of the pyramids.

Excellent experience - We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and Hazem was an excellent guide - his history knowledge and photography skills were on point!
Hazem and Ibrahim made a great team and we appreciate how they went above and beyond by getting us fresh mango juice to try (my favourite).
We mentioned we didn't want to go to any shops or markets afterwards and they took us straight back to the airport. Trip ended up being about 4/5 hours, perfect for our layover :)
Be clear about what time you want the tour to start and clarify if you are to meet them inside by the gate or outside arrivals.
Definitely recommend!!

The magic of the pyramids and their walls decorated with their mysterious hieroglyphs is something you cannot miss. - On our trip to Egypt we visited the Pyramids of Giza and I was truly impressed by the majesty of these ancient structures. The Great Pyramid of Cheops stood imposingly in front of me, reminding me of the greatness of ancient Egyptian civilization. The sellers of kufiyas, the traditional Arab scarves, approached enthusiastically, offering me their wares with kindness and a smile that told you you could haggle over the price. Despite their insistence, I was able to negotiate with them respectfully and enjoy the experience of acquiring an authentic kufiya as a souvenir of my visit.
The adventure of entering the Great Pyramid of Cheops was incredible. The climb to the sarcophagus chamber through the narrow corridors and reaching the pharaoh's chamber was exciting and full of mystery. I felt history palpable around me as I admired the intricate details of the architecture and reflected on life in ancient Egypt.
The horse-drawn carriage tour around the pyramids complex was a unique experience. Sitting in the comfortable carriage, I was able to admire the pyramids from different angles, while the guide told me fascinating stories about their construction and meaning. The desert landscape and the cool breeze added a special touch to this unforgettable ride.

Excellent adventure on a short layover - We had a 7 hour layover coming through Cairo, and decided that it would be better to make a quick visit to the pyramids than just sit in the terminal. Our driver was Ibrahim and our guide was Ola. We could not have had a better experience. Ola was waiting outside the terminal for us and we quickly got to the car. While Ibrahim was expertly navigating us through traffic on the way to Giza, Ola gave us a thorough history of Egypt, it's people, and the Giza site where the pyramids and Sphinx are located. Ola arranged tickets to be picked up along our drive so we would not have to wait in line once we arrived. We had a brief complication when entering the site (do NOT bring a telephoto lens or a flash for your DSLR, they are not allowed), but again, Ola was able to work through the problem quickly, and we continued our tour. Ola told us vendors to avoid, and vendors that are reputable. She did not pressure us to make any purchases. We were very comfortable the entire time. We were able to use the car to shuttle from location to location around the pyramids, and were never worried about making it back to the airport on time. We chose to stop at a papyrus store on our way back, and learned how the papyrus paper is made and elected to purchase a print on papyrus. But again, there really was no pressure to stop at the store, much less purchase something. Ola waited by the door exit the entire time we were in the very large shop. There was no point during our tour where we couldn't find her if we needed to, but she gave us several opportunities to walk around on our own. She told us right where she would be waiting for us, and that's where she would be.
In summary, if you have a 4 to 5 hour or more long layover at Cairo International Airport, do this tour. If you want to know more detail about Egyptian history and the history of the Giza site, do this tour. If you want to get higher quality souvenirs to remember your trip, do this tour. If you want to have great conversation while someone else shuttles you through the traffic in Cairo, do this tour.
Cannot recommend enough. 10/10.

Amazing - The driver and tour guide made continuous efforts to ensure the experience amazing. A female traveling alone in a foreign country can create extra challenges but these guys made sure I was safe (and were great photographers so I didn't end up with a bunch of selfies!)

Best Tour Guide - The tour guide is the best. It was a memorable experience just because of him. Safety and security was first and comes his knowledge of the history. Exceptional.

Great sights but bad organisation - Loved the experience the trip to sakkar was even better as it was less crowded. Seeing the piramyds and the Sphinx was amazing. My only dislike was not what I saw but your organisation I had to buy tickets to enter and then get my money back in Egyptian pounds. I had to do this for every site visited. Does not make sense. If I pay for the tour everything should be covered. Yes I get money back but I am now carrying a surplus off Egyptian currency that I don't want. Off course it does not cover the currency conversion for the credit card!
