- Skutustaoagigar - Skútustaðagígar are definatly one of the Icelandic gems. One of the landmarks in Lake Myvatn area are these unique and beautifully formed crater. They are called pseudo craters as they are not caused by the actual explosion of volcanos, but our guide will tell you all about them.
- Dimmuborgir Lava Formations - We take our time to drive around the lake during the day and visit many different places. Dimmuborgir is a unique and very interesting area. Visitors are given time to walk among the unusual lava sculptures, pillars and caves. Our guides know everything about this area and will be happy to walk with you to explain how the area was created 2,500 years ago, as well as tell you a few folktales about the local trolls.
- Grjotagja Cave - Grjótagjá is a small cave in the Lake Mývatn area, and was a popular bathing place at one time. However, geological activity in the period 1975-1984, caused the temperature of the water to rise to such a degree that it has not been possible to bathe there since. At Grjotagjá our guide will show you the the crack between the 2 tectonic plates and tell you about all the continental drift of the plates, mantle plumes and volcanic activity in Iceland.
- Namafjall Hverir - Hverir is a geothermal area at the foothill of Namaskard near Lake Myvatn. Features include colorful sulphur mud pits, steam vents, cracked mud and fumaroles. This area is colorful, mystic and extremely beautiful…but a bit smelly of all the sulphur

Our guides are highly qualified and possess in-depth knowledge of the Lake Myvatn region. On this tour, not only will participants learn about the area’s history, landscape, and contemporary life, but they will also hear about Icelandic folklore, humor, and culture.
This is a comprehensive 6-7 hour tour through some of the most stunning landscapes in North Iceland, with all travel time included. After a 35-minute drive from Akureyri, the tour reaches the magnificent Goðafoss waterfall. Here, there is ample time to appreciate the scenery before continuing the journey to Lake Myvatn. Following a 30-minute drive from the waterfall, the tour arrives at Lake Myvatn, with the first stop at Skutustadir, the Pseudo Craters. The group remains in the area for approximately 3 hours, making various stops throughout the day, including at the Dimmuborgir lava field, Grjotagja cave, and Namaskard fumaroles. At the end of the day, there is a 1 hour and 15-minute drive back to Akureyri.
