- Skutustaoagigar - This stop features pseudo craters, beautiful lava formations on Myvatn lake. It is a unique place that can be seen in only a few locations on earth. The attraction is next to the parking lot. Nearby, there is a small shop, visitor center, and free toilets.
- Dimmuborgir Lava Formations - Stunning and unique lava formations. This area was once a lake before lava destroyed it. Now, you can walk on the lake’s bottom and enjoy the lava formations. Here, we will take a small hike, but there is also an option to stay in a small restaurant/shop and enjoy the view from above. The toilet is free if you purchase something in the restaurant.
- Grjotagja Cave - Another unique spot featuring hot blue geothermal water running through a cave between two tectonic plates. You can explore the old geothermal baths inside the cave and stand between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates, observing the large crack running through Iceland.
- Namafjall Hverir - A place where shallow groundwater flows next to the Krafla volcano system, heating and rising to the surface. You can see steam vents, hot bubbling mud pots, and many colorful mineral spots on the ground. The area has a sulphurous smell, similar to rotten eggs.
- Dettifoss Waterfall - The most powerful waterfall in Europe by volume. You can feel its full power in early summer when the surrounding snow from the mountains is melting. Here, we will take a small hike from the car park. On the way, we can also see another waterfall called Selfoss.
- Myvatn Nature Baths (Jardbodin vid Myvatn) - A short stop before heading back to Akureyri. You can see the Myvatn Nature Baths, use the free toilet, and buy a snack in the shop.

Our journey takes us along Eyjafjörður, one of Iceland’s longest fjords, to our first destination, the Goðafoss waterfall, which holds great significance in Iceland’s history.
Next, we will explore the beauty of Lake Mývatn, where we can appreciate stunning sights such as Skútustaðagígar, also known as pseudo craters. This unique phenomenon can only be found in a few places around the world, including Iceland, Hawaii, one in the Azores, and even on the planet Mars. Additionally, we will visit Dimmuborgir, an area of extraordinary lava formations. We will then proceed to the Hverir geothermal area, where many smoking fumaroles and boiling mud pots can be observed.
After Hverir, we will travel approximately 40 minutes to see Dettifoss, one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe.
We will have the opportunity to visit the enchanting Grjótagjá cave to admire the hot blue river. The adventurous can even take a photo standing on two tectonic plates.
