The archaeological sites of Chachabamba and Choquesuysuy are just 15 minutes from the checkpoint. After a 3-hour hike, the group will reach Wiñaywayna (2,650 m / 8,694 ft), named after a beautiful orchid in the area, meaning “Eternally young” in Spanish. Machu Picchu - Following the exploration of Wiñaywayna, the group will continue for 2 hours along Andean trails, stone steps, and tambos (“resting places”) to reach Inti Punku - Puerta del Sol (2,720 m / 8,923 ft), which served as an entrance checkpoint to the Machu Picchu Citadel during the Inca era. From this vantage point, there is a breathtaking panoramic view of Machu Picchu and the surrounding valley.
