Taj Mahal - The Taj Mahal is a highlight of Indian tourism, built by Shah Jahan in honor of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. The original tomb of Shah Jahan’s wife Mumtaz is located in the Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh, 493 miles from Agra. She passed away in 1631 while giving birth to her 14th child, a daughter named Gauhar Ara Begum, in Burhanpur. Shah Jahan had traveled to Burhanpur to quell the Lodhi rebellion, and Mumtaz, despite being pregnant, accompanied him. Shah Jahan had three wives, with Mumtaz being his favorite, as she was the mother of 14 of his 16 children. After ascending the throne, Shah Jahan bestowed upon Arjumand the title of Mumtaz Mahal. He once vowed, with his hand on Mumtaz’s grave in Burhanpur, to build a tomb in her memory that would be unparalleled in the world. The Taj Mahal was constructed on the banks of the Yamuna River in her loving memory. The tour guide will show you excellent spots for photography.

Agra Fort - Agra Fort was initially built as a military establishment for the Mughal army by the third Mughal ruler, Akbar, who declared Agra the capital of the Mughal Empire. Later, some parts were converted into a royal residence. Agra Fort is approximately 2.5 km from the Taj Mahal and was designated a World Heritage Site in 1983 when a UNESCO team visited and included it in the list of global heritage sites. There are four gates for entering Agra Fort, but currently, only one gate is open for tourists. The four main gates are Amar Singh Gate (formerly Akbar Darwaza or Lahore Gate, facing south and renamed by Shah Jahan), Delhi Gate (the original entrance, facing west), Water Gate (also known as Khizri Gate, facing the Yamuna River), and Ghazni Gate. The Agra Fort is enormous, covering an area of 94 acres, surrounded by double walls of red sandstone, 21 meters high, with a circumference of 2.5 km. The walls are separated by a water moat.

We offer English-speaking, government-certified, and licensed tour guides for private tours of the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. In addition to providing historical insights, the tour guides suggest the best spots for photography. The Taj Mahal often appears less crowded as tourist numbers drop due to the high temperatures in summer, particularly in June. An early morning visit to the Taj Mahal is advised to avoid the intense heat of the sun. This time is ideal for photography, but for sightseeing, early morning or evening visits are recommended. Couples in wedding attire seeking pre-wedding photo shoots must obtain written permission from the ASI office. While there is no strict dress code for visiting the Taj Mahal, tourists are expected to dress respectfully, as there is an adjoining mosque where locals pray. A digital copy of the ticket is sufficient for entry into the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.
