• Agra Fort - Next on the itinerary is Agra Fort. This massive fort, built by Emperor Akbar in 1565, is composed of sandstone and stands alongside the River Yamuna. Shah Jahan’s son, Aurangzeb, imprisoned him here during the last eight years of his life, allowing him to gaze upon his wife’s tomb. The fort’s courtyards, mosques, and private chambers echo the history of the Mughal Empire.

• Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah - The Itmad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb is one of Agra City’s most remarkable architectural marvels. This monument is believed to have inspired the Taj Mahal, earning it the nickname “Baby Taj Mahal.” Many tourists visiting Agra for the Taj Mahal also seek out the Itmad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb.

• Mehtab Bagh - After exploring the Baby Taj, visit the sunset point of the Taj Mahal known as Mehtab Bagh. This charbagh complex is located behind the Taj Mahal or on the opposite side of the Yamuna River, in the floodplains. (This visit is optional if time permits.)
