Magical Evening in the Desert - A great way to spend an evening if you are in Marrakech. We were picked up at our hotel by our guide Idriss and a driver in a private vehicle. Idriss clearly explained the itinerary to us and we set off on the hour or so drive to the desert. 1st was the desert camel ride at sunset which was absolutely stunning and Idriss made sure he got plenty of photos for us so we could enjoying the camel ride and take in the sunset. We chose to dress in the traditional Berber clothing but you don't have to. After the camel ride we paused for some tea before heading further into the night-time desert to the restaurant for dinner. The food at the restaurant was amazing, the service excellent and we were entertained by traditional Berber musicians. Idriss was an excellent guide who took time to explain about the Agafay desert, Berber people and Moroccan traditions, he was more than happy to answer any questions we had. A final mention to the driver as the drive felt very safe despite the night time desert conditions!

Wonderful evening in Morocco - Excellent way to spend an evening in Morocco. Our guide, Idriss, picked us up from out hotel, taking us into the desert for a sunset camel ride. He took plenty photos for us, and walked along side. Stopped for a welcoming tea after the camels before heading onto a wonderful restaurant for authentic Moroccan dinner and entertainment.

Great Team and Logistics, but no "private" experience and questionable Animal Welfare - The 3 stars are solely for the excellent team: our personal driver (modern, clean van with on-time pick up), the professional young woman at the Argan oil farm (a women-only company which is very unique and worth supporting), and our local guide. Logistics and food were top-notch as well, the team really does know what its doing. However, we were naive and thought the higher price meant a more private destination...turns out it’s the same crowded "mass-tourism" spot as every other tour visits, which, in retrospective, does make sense...but for some reason we didn't realize what we signed up for. But the camel welfare was the real breaking point. While I am no camel expert, emaciated bodies and matted fur are usually not signs of a well-cared-for animal. The camels are sent in circles nonstop with tourists on their backs and are tied so closely together, that one’s nose is literally just inches from the other's rear end. They wear net muzzles, and when not "in use," their legs are tied together. The fact that noone else seemed to care made me feel like an "eco-alien" for even caring—I even brought carrots for them, which the staff heartlessly stuffed into their muzzles before handing the remains back to me without a word. We felt so much guilt that we skipped the ride we’d already paid for. Even now i feel pretty stupid about it because...yeah what did we expect??? So my recommemdation is: The organization is flawless, the people are lovely and the food is amazing. But if you care about animals, skip the camels and just book an ATV. These animals have earned their retirement and a good scrub.
