Highlights

Adelaide to Port Lincoln

Wallaroo - Begin your nature adventure as we head to Wallaroo on the Yorke Peninsula, where our ferry departs across the Spencer Gulf to the Eyre Peninsula at 9 am. Enjoy a coffee at the onboard café, relax, and take in the two-and-a-half-hour cruise across the gulf.

Port Lincoln - After arriving in Lucky Bay, reboard the bus to Port Lincoln. Enjoy some free time in Cowell to grab lunch and view unique silo art. Upon reaching Port Lincoln / Galinyala, be welcomed by Barngarla woman Emmalene Richards with a Welcome to Country ceremony.

Mikkira Station - After a brief stop in town, head to Mikkira Station Koala Sanctuary to set up camp. This private property hosts the Eyre Peninsula’s only wild koala population, along with many kangaroos and emus. Relax with your new friends over dinner before sleeping under the stars of the Milky Way.

Today, travel around 370km.

Coffin Bay

Coffin Bay National Park - After breakfast, travel up the coast to Coffin Bay National Park. Known for its white sandy beaches and wildlife, spend time exploring, swimming, and relaxing.

Coffin Bay - A visit to Coffin Bay isn’t complete without tasting the region’s famous oysters. Opt for the Coffin Bay Oyster Farm Tour, where you can wade out to a semi-submerged tour deck in a working commercial oyster farm, learn about these molluscs from the farmer, get a hands-on shucking lesson, and taste oysters fresh from the ocean. If you prefer not to wade, you can take the Oyster Trail walk or relax with a coffee or lunch at Oyster HQ while enjoying the views over Coffin Bay.

Boston Bay Wines - Later, back in Port Lincoln, enjoy some free time to explore the town and partake in wine tasting at Boston Bay Wines before returning to camp.

Mikkira Station - Alternative Itinerary
Those visiting Port Lincoln for aquatic wildlife encounters can choose a Great White Shark experience or swim with playful Australian Sea Lions. These activities are not included in the itinerary and must be booked directly with Calypso Star Charters. See Optional Extras for more details.
Drive time today is about 1.5 hours unless you opt for the shark experience, which is only 1 hour.
Accommodation
Swag camping at Mikkira Station, which has a toilet and shower. (Note: In high fire danger periods, camping is not allowed here, and an alternative campsite will be used).

Port Lincoln

Fishery Bay - Surfing is a way of life in Australia, so today, put on a wetsuit for a two-hour learn-to-surf lesson. The turquoise and calm waters of Fisheries Bay are ideal for beginners. Those not wanting to surf can relax on the beach or swim.

Port Lincoln - The National Trust of South Australia relies on volunteers to protect and preserve special places. This afternoon, after lunch, volunteer for three hours of conservation work at Brinkworth Reserve. Activities vary by season and may include seed collecting, weeding, or tree planting, guided by passionate volunteers.

Lincoln National Park - Return to camp via Lincoln National Park and Wanna Lookout, then relax over dinner.

Today, travel approximately 60km.

Port Lincoln to Flinders Ranges

Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park - Arrive at Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park in the late afternoon. The fossils here are so unique that geologists revised the geologic timeline to include a new era called the Ediacaran period. The park is also known for having some of the clearest skies in the Southern Hemisphere, perfect for stargazing.

Arkaroo Rock - Stretch your legs on the Arkaroo Rock Trail, a significant cultural site for the Adnyamathanha people, offering impressive views over the Chace Range.

Wilpena Pound - Arrive at Wilpena Pound Resort in the late afternoon to set up camp and enjoy dinner before sleeping under the stars.

Today, drive approximately 530km, with stops along the way.

Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park

Wilpena Pound - Watch a stunning sunrise in Wilpena Pound, then after breakfast, meet local Park Ranger and Adnyamathanha man John from Ngai Nhina Yuras. After a Welcome to Country, walk with him in a place where the sun and moon create magic as you listen to the fascinating stories of the Adnyamathanha People. Learn about culture and traditions, bush food, artefacts, and medicinal plants, followed by a cultural smoking protocol.

Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park - Return to camp for lunch and a swim in the resort pool in warmer weather. With a deeper understanding of Aboriginal culture, spend the rest of the afternoon exploring more of the ancient Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park.
Today, travel around 80km. Back at the resort, relax and soak up the serenity of this ancient landscape, and have dinner with your newfound friends.

Flinders Ranges to Adelaide

Tour packed to the brim with knowledge and fun! - Our guide Dan was full of knowledge of all wildlife. He pointed out and named all the creatures in our surrounds. It was an epic adventure. Even though we didn’t get to participate in the koala activity (because the station closes in the summer) we were allowed to stay at the station and got heaps of good photos of the koalas. Only the wine tasting activity was surprisingly the most disorganised and rushed which is a shame as I was looking forward to it, and had higher expectations of an SA winery. All the other activities were adventurous and informative. That coupled with Dan’s Aussie larrikin style made it all a real treat. Thank you for the memories untamed escapes !!

A fabulous way to experience the Eyre Peninsula & Flinders Ranges - I really enjoyed this trip! Seeing Wilpena Pound was a highlight. The swags were very comfortable and I enjoyed sleeping under the stars, of which there were many as the weather was kind. The highlight for me was the opportunity to see much of Australia's iconic wildlife including the yellow footed rock wallaby at Wilpena Pound; it is surprisingly colourful. Staying at Mikkira Station is a real treat as it allows the opportunity to see koalas at dawn and dusk when they are a bit more active. All in all thoroughly enjoyable 6 days,

Eyre Peninsula - This was an excellent, and fun, tour. Saw lots of interesting things. Highlights included swimming with the sea lions at Baird Bay, swimming at Talia Beach in the rockpools and an oyster picnic on the beach at Coffin Bay. Our guide, Altair, was great, entertaining and informative. Food was excellent, and our campsites were very good. I love camping in swags under the stars. We had a good group of 17 for the tour and we had loads of fun during our 6 days together. One glitch we had was the bus breaking down on day 1, but that was resolved with a replacement bus sent from Adelaide and we were on our way within a couple of hours. Its good to know that your tour company is capable of dealing effectively and quickly with problems like this. I'd happily travel with Nullabor Traveller again (eyeing off the Esperance trip sometime in the next year).

The great bush escape. - I recently found myself immersed in the 6 day Eyre Peninsula and Flinders Ranges Tour. How wonderful it was to escape to the bush again. Sleeping under the stars and meeting people from around the world. Swimming with sea lions and dolphins were exciting firsts for me. And more close encounters with Emus, Kangaroos and Koalas. I even found myself involved in an impromptu dance party at Coodlie Park, no less. All this made possible by the amazing crew I encountered in Jason, Joe, and Kirsty. Passionate about their work, they were so knowledgeable, flexible, and provided awesome meals. But above all, they are just so much fun to be with. Thanks heaps guys.

Awesome trip! - The trip was really great, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to experience South Australia's nature and wildlife. Sleeping under the stars and becoming friends with people all over the world is an amazing experience. You should be open and adventurous for this kind of trip to have the best time! I've started off with the group travelling from Adelaide to Perth and our tour guide Amanda was an awesome guide and did her best to make our time as pleasant as possible. We had a lot of fun and I felt even a bit sad to leave the group so early. Half way, I’ve joined the group travelling in the opposite direction and continued my loop back to Adelaide. The group was guided by Chris who was incredible. He is highly experienced and knows so much about wildlife, geology, star formations and much more; and on top of it he is a great cook and spoilt us with his creations. I had a great time and would recommend booking this tour!
