Bale Mountains - Embark on an 8-hour drive from Addis to Bale Mountain Lodge, pausing along the way for sightseeing and breaks. Arrive at the serene cloud forest setting. Guests have spotted giant forest hogs, leopards, black-maned lions, Bale and vervet monkeys, olive baboons, and Menelikās bushbucks. Conveniently located in the cloud forest, guided walks in the nearby area are available daily.
This afternoon, settle in and unwind after your journey, or embark on a hike before dinner. Short walks near the lodge often reward guests with sightings of the elusive Bale monkey and a vibrant array of birds, including Ethiopian cisticola, Abyssinian slaty flycatcher, Abyssinian catbird, black-headed siskin, yellow-fronted parrot, and black-winged lovebird. A more challenging two-hour hike up Mount Gujaralle offers breathtaking views of the untouched forest. Enjoy a refreshing dip in a secluded waterfall on your return to the lodge.

Bale Mountains - Travel just 40km south today to explore the Harenna Forest, which descends into the arid Rift Valley. Visit the small town of Dola Mena, about an hourās drive from the lodge, and keep an eye out for giant forest hogs, vervet monkeys, and numerous butterflies passing through the area.
Alternatively, if you prefer a longer drive, head about 3 hours north to the Gaysay Grasslands. This section of Bale National Park is renowned for its wildlife viewing opportunities and is home to the endemic mountain nyala, Menelikās bushbuck, and wild pig.
