Mago National Park - Starting early, we drive through the mountains, experiencing some of Ethiopia’s most stunning scenery, and enter the drier region of Mago National Park where we might spot Dik Dik and the lesser Kudu. On the dry plains, we visit a Mursi Village. The Mursi people are famous for the decorated clay plates that women insert into their lower lips. This practice begins in adolescence, with the plates gradually increasing in size, some eventually reaching the size of a bread and butter plate. This tradition appears to be declining, as many older women now have loose skin without a plate. Drive to Konso.

Arba Minch

Chamo Lake - We start early today, driving from the fertile lands, across the dry plains, until we reach Arba Minch, known for its Ensete (false) bananas. Arba Minch, meaning Forty Springs, is a fertile valley that produces fruit. We drive into the Chencha mountains to visit a Dorze village, renowned for their fine wool and cotton weaving (great for shopping). Their unique thatched homes are tall and beehive-shaped. We will visit a home, observe some weaving, and see a demonstration of the various uses of the “false” banana. After a picnic lunch, we drive to Lake Chamo for a boat trip to look for enormous crocodiles and possibly even hippopotamuses before returning to the airport. Fly from Arba Minch to Addis.
