- Pyramids of Giza - Begin your tour with a pickup from your hotel in Cairo or Giza by a tour guide. The Giza pyramid complex, also known as the Giza Necropolis, is located on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt. It includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. These structures were built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The site also features several cemeteries and the remains of a workers’ village.
- Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - The Great Pyramid of Giza, also referred to as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops, is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza pyramid complex near present-day Giza in Greater Cairo, Egypt. It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the only one to remain largely intact.
- Menkaure Pyramid - The pyramid complex of Menkaure includes a valley temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple once housed several statues of Menkaure. During the 5th Dynasty, a smaller ante-temple was added to the valley temple.
- Khafre’s Pyramid - The pyramid complex of Khafre consists of a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple contained several statues of Khafre, some of which were discovered in a well in the temple floor by Mariette in 1860.
- Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx of Giza, often simply called the Sphinx, is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with a lion’s body and a human head. Facing directly from west to east, it is situated on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. The face of the Sphinx is generally believed to represent the pharaoh Khafre.
Carved from the bedrock, the original shape of the Sphinx has been restored with layers of blocks. It measures 73 meters (240 feet) in length from paw to tail, 20 meters (66 feet) in height from the base to the top of the head, and 19 meters (62 feet) in width at its rear haunches. It is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt and is commonly thought to have been built by ancient Egyptians of the Old Kingdom during the reign of pharaoh Khafre (c. 2558–2532 BC).
- The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities - The Egyptian Museum is the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East and houses the largest collection of Pharaonic antiquities in the world. The museum’s extensive collection spans from the Predynastic Period to the Greco-Roman Era.
The building’s architect was chosen through an international competition in 1895, the first of its kind, and was won by French architect Marcel Dourgnon. The museum was inaugurated in 1902 by Khedive Abbas Helmy II and has since become a historic landmark in downtown Cairo, home to some of the world’s most magnificent ancient masterpieces.
