So much fun! - We had a wonderful tour. The tour starts with coffee/tea and cookies while enjoying the sunset before heading into the forest. Our guide, Donald, was so knowledgeable and incredible at spotting wildlife. The preserve is obviously much smaller than other locations in the area, but that’s part of beauty and allure of it. We saw a variety of animals and insects so don’t be discouraged by the smaller size! Well worth it!

It Was Like Seeing Nature for the First Time - We had Donald Torres as our guide for the night walk. We were amazed at not only his ability to find these well hidden creatures, but also his knowledge and expertise were extraordinary. He made the tour overwhelmingly delightful. He made nature come alive. We can’t thank him enough.

Amazing experience with maximal sightings - Donald was an amazing guide! He is a genuine ecologist with a wealth of knowledge and an entertaining approach to teaching. The sunset is the best possible in the Monteverde area and the home-grown coffee is delicious! The unique location of this sanctuary means you can find species from multiple different ecosystems. What a treasure!

Excellent night hike - Donald was an excellent and knowledgeable tour guide. We saw many insects, birds and animals and a rare-to-see viper. This night tour was well worth it and we would highly recommend it. Tea and coffee at the beginning was a nice bonus to enjoy while learning about the area.

Amazing walk at the Cloud Forest and a fantastic nightwalk at the Woodpecker Reserve - We did the night walk with Donald, we spotted a lot of animals. Donald sees the animals in a split second. He also knows how to share a lot of information about the animals. It is an enthusiastic guide with passion for his work that you can see in how driven he is. We also took the day walk in the Cloud Forrest this walk was great, as was the night walk. I recommend taking both walks!

Nocturnal nature at its finest. - Woodpecker Educational Tours came highly recommended to us by our local Air BnB host. They were responsive & friendly when booking via WhatsApp and greeted us with a smile and chilled out vibe even when we were running a little late. Coffee & cookies at the view point was a lovely way to begin & enabled us to bond with our little tour “familia” before heading off into the forest in search of nocturnal creatures. Chris, our guide, was very enthusiastic about the local flora & fauna and we were lucky to see a Rufous eyed brook frog (endemic to these parts) as well as coati, a tarantula and side striped palm pit viper to name but a few. Having done night time walks before, a real highlight for me was that the guides use of telescopes. Sometimes it’s hard to see what they’re seeing so having it in a fixed position on a snoozing animal enabled us to really see details and get photographs that would otherwise be impossible.

Super night tour with sunset - The view and sunset was very nice. Donald explained everything to us great and tried to make small groups so that everyone could look into the telescope and also get photos of the animals via the telescope. The pictures and experiences are unique, the path is well feasible for all fitness levels. I would recommend the tour to anyone:)

Great Night Walk! - We had a wonderful time with Donald as our guide. Through a chance meeting of Donald near the Horse Trek Monteverde, we were compelled to try the Woodpecker Reserve Night Walk. He really knows so much about the area, and could spot the animals and help us take wonderful pictures through his telescope to capture our experience, and relate our adventure to our friends and family so beautifully. The hike was of medium difficulty, so wear good shoes. The tea at sunset was a memorable experience. Donald answered all our questions very well, and he took good care of us during our 3 hour hike. We wore our own headlamps, but he also supplied flashlights as needed. The price was a good value for the knowledge shared.

Night Tour - The private walk enabled us to go at our own pace. Be advised that part of this walk is a steep incline. We are in our 70s, so our guide, Donald, made sure the pace was gentle. Donald was an exceptional nature guide. He is a teacher of ecology in a high school and his passion for the flora and fauna of Monteverde is apparent. And what an eye he has! He found a black sleeping monkey against the black sky. Found a sloth slowly creeping on a branch as well as insects and frogs. Nice tour. Informative. The tea and cookies before we began the tour was a nice touch. Property is family-owned, not a big park or preserve.
