Mikumi National Park (Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park)

Morogoro Region - On your way to Mikumi National Park, you’ll pass through the Morogoro region, one of Tanzania’s largest regions, covering 70,624 square kilometers—comparable in size to Ireland. Morogoro is home to Mikumi National Park and the majestic Udzungwa Mountains, which can be seen on your left when coming from Dar es Salaam. These mountains tower over Morogoro, offering a stunning scenic view.

Mikumi National Park - From Morogoro town, this magnificent park lies 33 km. approximately 30-35 minutes drive time. Mikumi National Park, is renowned for its diverse wildlife and scenic landscapes. It covers an area of approximately 3,230 square kilometers and is part of the larger Nyerere (Selous) ecosystem. Visitors to Mikumi can observe a wide array of animals, including large herds of elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, and wildebeests. Predators such as lions, leopards, and hyenas are also commonly seen.

The park is home to some rare animals, such as the African wild dog and the elusive eland. Bird enthusiasts can delight in spotting over 400 species of birds, including the lilac-breasted roller, bateleur eagle, and the striking African fish eagle. Mikumi National Park offers a quintessential safari experience with its rich biodiversity and picturesque savannahs.

Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park - After an early breakfast, you’ll embark on a thrilling safari into the wilderness of Mikumi National Park. The early morning game drive offers the best chance to witness the park’s magnificent wildlife, as animals are more active before the heat of the day. With the expertise of our guides, you’ll have the opportunity to see the “Big Four” (excluding the rhinoceros, which are not native to this area): lions, buffalo, elephants, and the elusive leopards, which are known for their solitary and nocturnal nature. Additionally, you’ll enjoy the sight of numerous hippos, which are abundant in Mikumi.

After an exciting morning, enjoy a delightful lunch in the heart of the wild.

Later in the day, you will be transferred back to your hotel. There, you can unwind with a hot dinner, take a refreshing bath, and relax in a warm, cozy environment for the night.

Transfer to Nyerere National Park

Nyerere National Park - After an early breakfast, your road trip to Nyerere National Park will begin. The journey, which includes both off-road and tarmac segments, will take approximately 7 hours. You’ll arrive in the late afternoon or evening and head straight to your lodge for a delightful dinner and a cozy overnight stay.

Nyerere National Park (Full day game drive)

Nyerere National Park - After an early breakfast, your safari through the magnificent Nyerere National Park will commence. In addition to the Big Five, this park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including about 1,300 African wild dogs, the largest concentration in Africa, as well as spotted hyenas, vervet monkeys, bushbucks, common elands, Coke’s hartebeests, waterbucks, and wildebeests.

Nyerere National Park also boasts a variety of bird species, such as the African spoonbill, Coqui francolin, Egyptian goose, and African fish eagle, among many others. Depending on your preferences, you can also enjoy a boat safari on the Rufiji River for an up-close look at marine life, including hippos and crocodiles. We’ll strive to ensure you experience as much of this wildlife as possible in the vast expanse of the park.

You’ll enjoy your packed lunch in the wilderness, and after an exciting day of wildlife viewing, you’ll be transferred to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Nyerere National Park to Zanzibar (Flying Out)

Nyerere National Park - As this is your last day in the park, time for exploration will be limited. However, you’ll still get a chance to catch a glimpse of the wildlife as you are transferred to the nearest airstrip to catch your flight to Zanzibar.

Zanzibar Island - After a 40-minute flight, you’ll arrive at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport on Unguja, the largest and most visited island in the Zanzibar archipelago. Zanzibar is known for its pristine white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and rich cultural heritage. The archipelago includes Unguja, Pemba (the second largest), Latham, and smaller, mostly uninhabited islands like Changuu/Prison Island, Bawe, Mnemba (inhabited), and Kwale.

Later, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in Michamvi Kae. Here, you can relax, enjoy a delicious dinner, and settle in for a cozy overnight stay, ready to experience the rest of Zanzibar’s beauty and culture in the days ahead.

Stone Town - Upon arrival, you’ll have a few minutes to spare in Stone Town. If you are not tired from the flight, you can spend 2-3 hours touring Stone Town. This UNESCO World Heritage site is renowned for its labyrinthine streets, bustling bazaars, and richly detailed Arabic, Persian, Indian, and European architecture.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar Island - On your sixth day of this adventure, you may opt to relax out at the beach, talk a walk on the pristine white sand and enjoy the sky blue waters or alternatively you can embark on various exercursions. You can opt for snorkeling as the island itself is 70% made of coral reefs and you can enjoy this beauty. Scuba diving too is one of the option you can go for and catch a glimpse of amazing marine life. Jozani forest also can serve as amazing point to explore some wildlife. You can also embark on famous spicy tours , and enjoy the natural and sweet aroma that can be found on this island

Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park - Explore Jozani Forest, Zanzibar’s only national park, renowned for its rich biodiversity and lush landscapes.
