Highlights

Windhoek - Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei - We will pick you up from your hotel or guest house between 7 am and 8 am and depart at 8:30 am straight on the way south to world-famous Sossusvlei via picturesque Spreetshoogte Pass. We will then have a Stop-over at the viewpoint to appreciate the endless view of the Namib. Our lunch at the Solitaire oasis. We will arrive at the lodge or campsite at around 3-4 pm. This time is extremely hot, we recommend that you spend the day cooling off by the pool. Early rest is required as tomorrow you are expected to wake early in the morning.

Sossusvlei, Dune 45, Dead Vlei & Sesriem

Sossusvlei - Early in the morning, at sunrise, we will visit the Sesriem Gate to the remarkable Sossusvlei. We start off with climbing picturesque Dune 45, experiencing beauty and vastness of the Orange-colored landscape. Off-road drive to the Dead Vlei, a place of Vast desert pan where dried-up, ancient acacias stand silent in the impressive, open-air gallery. If you have enough energy, you can climb one of the highest dunes on Earth, the ‚Big Daddy ‘or ‚Big Mama. After the morning excursion, we will return back to Sesriem for lunch. We will take a break for 1-2 hours. Once the heat subsides, we will take a short excursion to Sesriem Canyon. This will be our last activities for the day.

Sossusvlei to Walvis Bay & Swakopmund

Swakopmund Jetty - Namibia is a country of contrasts. Today we will move from desert to sea. On our way we will cross the Tropic of Capricorn and traverse the Gaub and the Kuiseb passes, driving down to the dry river bed at the bottom of the Kuiseb Canyon before climbing up the other side and watching the spectacular desert landscape unfold before us. Having arrived at the coast, we will make a stop in Walvis Bay to enjoy the view of flamingos and other birds in the lagoons. We will take a short break for lunch. We overnight in Swakopmund. Dinner tonight is at the client’s own expense in a local restaurant.

Swakopmund-Cape Cross (Seal Colony)

Swakopmund Jetty - In the morning we will go on an excursion to the seal colony at Cape Cross, north of Swakopmund, where we will be able to experience thousands of fur seals at close range. The rest of the day will be free with plenty of time to explore the town. Swakopmund is a very pleasant seaside town with lots of shops, a good stretch of beach (although the Atlantic is quite cold here) and an open-air curio market. There is also a very good museum and the Namibian National Marine Aquarium is located in Swakopmund. Alternatively, there are various optional activities that can be arranged. These include a boat-tour (with oysters and champagne) scenic flights and micro-light flights over the desert, fishing trips (either from the beach or in a boat), quad-bike trips into the desert and over the sand dunes around Swakopmund, sandboarding, skydiving and many other activities. Your guide will discuss all the possible optional activities with you and offer to make pre-bookings in advance.

Swakopmund to Etosha

Etosha Pan - You will be collected from your hotel between 08:00 and 08:30. We have a long drive today. On our way we will stop in Usakos to fill up with petrol and provisions. We will have a picnic lunch in Outjo. We are expected to arrive in Okaukuejo in the afternoon. We will drive through some parts of the National park in search of various games. We will be at our respective accommodation just before sunset. Dinner will sum-up the adventure and rest will be required so that we can be able to wake up early and fresh for the full day game drive tomorrow.

Etosha National Park

Etosha Pan - You will rise early and soon after breakfast start your full-day game drive in Etosha National Park. The early morning hours provide time for magnificent exploration as you visit the waterholes. You will get to visit the Etosha pan (salt pan) before game driving across the park in search of the “Big 5” and other animal species. A light lunch will be provided and allow you some time rest, gathering energy for your next adventure. After lunch and some rest and relaxation you will visit the last waterhole that will be the last appreciation of Namibia’s beauty. Before sunset you will head back to the lodge for dinner where you can share stories of your experiences of the day and also share and compare beautiful photos. After a night of stories and photos, you will turn in for the night

Etosha to Windhoek

Windhoek City Cab - Be prepared for the long, scenic transit back to Windhoek. We pass through towns and rural areas, stopping in the small town of Okahandja, the home of Namibia’s largest wood carving market. The stalls operate on a local co-operative basis and offer a vast array of truly Namibian souvenirs. We are back in Windhoek in the afternoon not later than 16:00 hour. You will be dropped off at your accommodation. For those who are returning back to their respective countries, please arrange with the guide so that you can drive as early as possible.

I want to relive this experience - I took a chance on this 3 year old company for the promise of smaller groups, and for a tour that started in the desert and ended in Etosha (as so many other tours do the reverse). In every way, I was surprised, delighted, and continually telling myself what a stroke of luck it was that I had chosen Discovery. I was in a group of 2 people, with a third person (who had a shorter tour) for half of that time. My tour guide was Seven; I am at a loss for words to convey how knowledgeable, well-spoken, talented, personable, and enthusiastic he is as a person and as a guide. He can speak about any subject with depth and consideration, a useful trait for those long drives between destinations. Also, a great campfire cook! In the desert sands, he has the driving skills to navigate his way along paths that others have become stuck in (and he kindly helps those who have become trapped). In Etosha, he could spot animals in the distance that I could not see, even after he pointed them out. While other vehicles would rush by without noticing, Seven would slowly roll up to a spot and point out what other tour drivers would miss, whether lions under a tree, or a rhino right beside the road but camouflaged in a mudbath. I saw some amazing creatures doing amazing things, and I credit the skill and enthusiasm of Seven in large part for this. I will be forever grateful for my experience with Discovery. Fanuel has a great staff at the Discovery Lodge, and even my time in Windhoek (which is not an exciting town) the days before and after the tour were terrific. Discovery will make arrangements on your behalf for any upgraded lodgings you wish to purchase. I recommend taking a private room at the lodge for Etosha - very worth it!
