Meru Slopes is #1! - Meru Slopes delivered! We had an excellent safari exploring the two national parks & Ngorongoro. Our guide/driver Jay T. was excellent. He answered our endless questions, helped us understand what we were seeing, was an expert navigator, and made certain we saw the “Big 5.” Plus, he was fun, kind & helpful to other drivers who had flat tires, etc. We highly recommend Meru Slopes for your safari; you’ll have no regrets.

Meru Slopes is a MUST - amazing quality for a great price - We just completed a 5 day safari with Meru Slopes and it was nothing short of amazing. Meru selected where we stayed and the hotels and migration camps were very nice and fulfilled our want of adventure while also giving us creature comforts like showers and comfortable beds. Our guide Jay was THE BEST - we got along from day 1 and by the end we were so sad to part ways with him. He shared tons of information about the parks with us, answering our questions, and was a great driver who got us through rough roads, fog, and traffic jams. He was always willing to go above and beyond helping us to find certain animals, to teach us about Swahili and Tanzanian culture, and was both kind and funny. We will be recommending Meru to everyone as it is a fantastic deal for the price and we feel really lucky to have met Jay.

One of the best travel experiences of my life - Just returned from 5 days Serengeti Safari tour with Meru Slopes. I am extremely satisfied with the experience. It was an amazing trip with so many sitings of lions, cheetahs, hippos, hyenas, elephants, buffaloes, wildebeests, hundred of birds and many more. We watched the migration of Wildebeests as well. Although it is very hard to have the siting of Rhinos, we saw four of them in the Ngorongoro crater. Our guide/driver Kennedy is a wonderful person. He drives like James Bond 🤣. He was always patience and traversed throughout the park in different places so that we could have all the animals we were hoping for. He waited for considerable amount of time to show us leopard which is quite hard to find. Though we didn't see leopard, we were indeed very happy for the try. Our cook Gidion was funny, cheerful person. His dishes were all amazing and we eat a lot throughout the trip. I had my b'day in between and he made a beautiful birthday cake for me with the little ingredients available in the Serengeti Camp site. I was so emotional and greatful for that. Meru Slopes prices were quite reasonable from other companies. I have been provided night stays before and after the tour as well as airport transfers as part of the tour, which is quite rare with other companies. Hence, I would highly recommend Meru Slopes if you are interested in Serengeti.

Would go again - After my Kilimanjaro hike I went on a 5 days safari and had another incredible time. Robert was professional, chill and helpful. We had good conversation and he was also able to help us locate animals we were desperately hoping to find. He catered the outings to our needs and I have nothing bad to say about the driver or our trip. The food was also very good which I was not expecting out of the trip.

Dream come true, witnessing the wildebeest migration - We had such an amazing experience. Lebolu our driver and guide had some magic. Took us right on time to witness the very thing that brought me to Serengeti-wildebeest migration.

Incredible camping safari experience! - I went on this safari with my adult daughter. We had an incredible time and highly recommend it! Our safari guide was Samwel and our chef was Saleem. They both made this experience better than we imagined it could be. The night before our safari began was spent at the Arusha Tourist Inn. The inn was located down an alley. Other reviewers have complained about it being uncomfortable or loud. While it was loud at times, the noise didn’t pose a problem for us when it mattered, like when we needed to sleep. The hotel offered a kitchen where we ordered some spaghetti dishes that were delicious and large portions. Our room was on the 3rd floor. We had a bathroom with a shower and really no complaints. Don’t forget your toiletries as they only provide bar hand soap and toilet paper. We had a lot of extra luggage with us which the owner, Geofrey allowed us to store in the office while we were on safari. The safari trucks have to carry all of us, plus our food and camping supplies so packing light was essential. We went the second week of June and definitely had some cold moments in the crater. We highly recommend you pack some warm clothes or layered options to help with the cold. The night we stayed at the Simba campsite it got down into the 40°s. And we woke up to low cloud covering. You are up before the sun most mornings to get an early start to the day. Flashlights or headlamps are helpful. One night the buffalo came to our campsite and left some gifts for us on the trail to the bathrooms and we witnessed a man ahead of us step straight into one of those gifts in his crocs! So definitely bring and use a flashlight of some sort. It also will help you while you get ready in the tent in the dark. Also, bathroom facilities don’t always have light so you will need light for those situations as well. Don’t forget a travel towel if you plan to shower while camping. The showers and toilet stalls often are muddy and dirty so bringing a cover up to wear back to your tent to get dressed in might be easier than trying to balance and not get your clothes dirty from touching the muddy floor. Our guide, Samwel ALWAYS found us the best views. We saw every single animal we hoped to see and so many more. At one point we were driving right next to an elephant in the Tarangire National Park. We had a lion lay in the shade of our truck in such a way that his tail was under our tire and we couldn’t move for a bit because he didn’t care to move. Samwel was happy to share additional details and answer every question we had. He absolutely made our safari special. We ate well the whole trip. Never went to bed hungry. We ate family style for every meal with our safari group. We had things like: rice, pasta, potatoes, veggies, chicken, fruit, eggs, crepes, coffee, juice, water and coca-cola. The food was all so delicious, Saleem never disappointed us! The tents were set up for us before we got the the campsites which was nice. We slept on thin mats with sleeping bags and foam pillows. The mats are kind of thin and on occasion you could feel rocks beneath you so if you’re sensitive to that, maybe consider a manual blow up mattress if it’s compact. The only time we were uncomfortable was with the cold. It was hard to get warm and we wished we had packed warmer clothes. That wasn’t enough to mess up our safari experience though. Overall, from beginning to end, Geofrey was very good at communicating with us whenever we had questions. He met us the night we got to the hotel and went over everything with us and he was there when we got back to the hotel after the safari to set up our airport transfer the next morning. The day we flew out, our flight was at 9:05am and we got picked up from the hotel at 6am. The driver was friendly and helpful and got us to Kilimanjaro airport in plenty of time. We have no complaints at all. This was an incredible safari and if we end up back in Tanzania, we wouldn’t hesitate to go on another tour with Meru Slopes!

BEST BIRTHDAY TRIP EVER - I wanted to go on a safari for a long time, and I had a lot of expectations, and honestly, this trip went beyond those expectations. Our guide, driver Lobulu, was great. He made sure we encountered lots of animals up close. He had a lot of information about all the animals we saw. His driving skills were outstanding, and he was able to spot the animals from the distance even while driving. We had a situation at our campsite on the second night, dozens of militaries were there because they were burning some areas, they were loud and the smoke was everywhere but, Lobulu managed it pretty well and we moved to a different site so we were able to have a good night sleep. Thank you for that. Every place we visited was beautiful, nature amazes me. The sunrises were breathtaking, as well as the nights. I live in the city so I've never seen the stars like that and it was a wonderful experience. But the highlight of the trip was presented by our chef Dula. I took this trip for my birthday and he surprised me with a beautiful and delicious cake in the middle of the serengeti , I don't know how you made this possible but thank you so much, I will never forget it. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day were also nice and tasty. If I ever get the opportunity to go back, I would totally go back with meru slopes.

Amazing Safari experience! - Me and my mom were picked up from another hotel in Arusha by a driver who had very little info for us. We maneuvered through traffic and finally turned down a side alley and were at the hotel for the night. The driver helped take our bags up to reception, the receptionist had us fill out a paper then she took us up to our room and closed the door behind her. We had no idea what was next so I sent Geofrey a message and he replied rather quickly letting us know someone would be by around 6pm to inform us. We went to the lobby just ahead of 6 and Geofrey met us there. He told us about the schedule for the next morning and went over the itinerary for the whole trip. Dinner the first night is on us so we chose to eat in the hotel kitchen. We had spaghetti, we made the mistake of ordering two. It was all so delicious but way too much food. While we ate, the rest of our safari group came to the kitchen and we all got to meet and chat a bit. The next morning we all met in the lobby at 6am I believe. We met our amazing guide Samwel and our chef Saleem. We loaded our bags into the truck and headed off. (Oh and our extra luggage was able to be left in the office and was perfectly safe.) Samwel was an incredible guide. He was personable from the moment we met him. He helped cultivate a family feel for our safari group. We all met as strangers and parted as family. Samwel was so good about getting group photos of us all which was really nice. The drive is bumpy and dusty but amazing. Samwel shared interesting details about life in Tanzania and was always open to answering any and all questions we may have had. We are family style meals. We would lay down a cloth to cover the table and we would have dishes of food set out and we would all serve ourselves and sit together at all meals. The food was delicious. Usually eggs of some sort for breakfast with bread or potatoes and fruit and coffee. Lunch was meat of some sort, vegetables and rice or pasta or potatoes. And dinner we usually had a soup starter with bread of some sort, a meat, veggies and a carb. Sometimes we had juice available, Coca Cola but always water. The flavor in the food was really good and each meal always hit the spot. The safari game drives were all quite amazing. Samwel always got us in just the right position for close animal encounters. Sometimes it would seem like we were one of the few cars going in the opposite direction of a lot of other cars but it always turned out to be worth it. Samwel has been a guide for a long time and absolutely knows what he’s doing. We saw all of the animals we could have hoped to see and even a few last minute random wishes like a snake! Camping was an experience. The Serengeti campsite wasn’t too crowded when we arrived but filled in once we were settled. It still wasn’t too bad. It was a pretty area but you are camping so things will be dirty. There were bathrooms and a shower there. Again, the facilities are nice for being a popular camping area. Camping in the crater was a bit more challenging. It was freezing!! Absolutely bring warm clothes. It got down into the 40s at night and we woke up to a low cloud covering and wet tents. So dress in layers and be prepared for a cold morning in the crater. Thankfully it warmed up in the crater around 11am or so. The drive back to the hotel felt long just because we were exhausted from an amazing trip. Samwel brought our bags up and we said goodbye. Geofrey was there to meet us in the lobby and we were given the info of when to be downstairs for our ride to the airport the next morning. Then we got our room assignments and headed up. We had dinner in the hotel again the last night. We got a different type of spaghetti but shared one this time. The power ended up going out and the very kind waiter brought his phone over with the flashlight on and set it on our table until the generator kicked on so we didn’t have to eat in the dark. The hotel was comfortable. It’s kind of loud at time but we managed to sleep pretty good while there. The shower was sufficient. You have to bring your own toiletries which isn’t a problem. They provide towels and hand soap and toilet paper. Overall, we had an excellent trip and if we make it back to Tanzania, we won’t hesitate to book with Meru Slopes again!

What an Adventure, I didn't think I really wanted to do a camping Safari but it was AMAZING and so glad I did - I messaged Geofrey on the back of the reviews on here, he came straight back to me with a itinerary based on my needs (unlike Suricata). Travelling alone and Camping for the first time I felt a bit unsure but WOW WOW WOW. I have just returned from the most amazing 5 days in Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Our Guide Samuel and Chef Saleem felt like friends enjoying the experience with us. I have done Safaris in SA, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Kenya and also in nice lodges, this trip did not disappoint. Although basic with the camping and washroom facilities, it was still the best experience ever. We saw all of the big five and were given lots of information and had lots of laughs. There were 5 others and myself in the group, I was expecting to share being a solo traveller but I had my own room (the starting/ending night in the hotel) and my own tent on Safari. Collection from the airport and drop off back to the airport was also included, this was a real bonus. You can also leave any excess luggage at the hotel. I took a small carry on case with me and a ruck sack which was fine. The food was all home cooked by Saleem and we certainly never went hungry!! Rice, Pasta, Chicken, Fish, Popcorn, vegetables, homemade bread, Omelettes and Crepes to name some of the food on Safari. There was unlimited water with other drinks available. I have so much to say about how amazingly organised this was and how lovely everyone was. I would not hesitate to use Meru Slopes again and would definitely recommend them, I felt it was very good value and felt very safe and looked after. A very big THANK YOU SAMUEL!! you made this a very special experience for me (especially as it was my first time travelling alone to Africa). Loved the adventure so much.
