After departing from Athens, our first stop will be the Corinth Canal, where you can enjoy the stunning view from the bridge and capture some amazing photos.
Mycenae - Later, in the Peloponnese, explore the well-preserved ruins of Mycenae, one of Ancient Greece’s most significant sites and the legendary home of Agamemnon, the Greek leader during the Trojan War.
The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus - Our next destination is the UNESCO-listed Sanctuary of Asklepios, the first healing center of the Ancient World. You will also visit the remarkable Theatre of Epidaurus, one of Greece’s most popular ancient attractions.
Palamidi Castle - Visit the imposing Palamidi Castle perched atop a hill, overlooking Nafplio.
Nafplio - We will then arrive at the historic town of Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece, with its commanding Palamidi Castle overlooking the Venetian quarter, now home to many local craft shops that are a delight to explore. Enjoy lunch at one of the seafront taverns with a view of the impressive Bourtzi fortress in the bay before checking into your accommodation.
Nafplio - Monemvasia
Monemvasia - After breakfast, we will continue for about two hours (stopping at small villages or other points of interest, such as Leonidio or Kosmas) to reach Monemvasia. Originally separated from the mainland by an earthquake, the Gibraltar-like rock of Monemvasia served as an ideal, inaccessible natural fortress for settlement in the 6th century by locals seeking protection from Slavic invaders.
Mystras - We will head north to visit the 800-year-old ruins of the medieval city and UNESCO site of Mystras, once the seat of Byzantine power in the region, filled with palaces, residences, mansions, churches, monasteries, water and drainage systems, commercial workshops, extensive streets, and fortifications.
Mani Peninsula
Caves of Diros - We will explore the Caves of Diros, where you can take a boat ride through its numerous chambers and eventually emerge at the sea.
Areopoli - We will visit this charming small town.
Limeni - A beautiful seaside village.
Kardamili - After enjoying the routes and sites of Mani, such as Areopoli and Limeni, we will arrive at its capital, Kardamyli, where you can shop for souvenirs and have lunch or a drink by the sea.
Ancient Olympia
Archaeological Site of Olympia - Today, we will visit Olympia, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the birthplace of the Olympic Games, one of the four most revered athletic events in the Ancient Greek world. Visit the Temple of Zeus, crafted by the renowned Phidias, which was among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Walk around the Palestra and the Gymnasium, once used by thousands of male athletes who gathered here to compete in the Olympic Games and win its unique prize, an olive wreath from the sacred olive trees. Visit the Archaeological Museum, which houses masterpieces of plastic art like the Hermes of Praxiteles and the Nike (Victory) of Paionios, as well as the sculptures that once adorned the Temple of Zeus. Continue this journey into ancient times with a visit to Ancient Messene. Unlike most other ancient cities, it has remained largely untouched by later settlements and is thus exceptionally well-preserved. Later, visit the Museum of Olive and Greek Olive Oil to learn all the secrets of Greek extra virgin olive oil.
Mountain Villages of Arcadia
Stemnitsa - Visit this village.
Dimitsana - Visit this village.
Lousios Gorge - Discover the picturesque mountain villages and monasteries of the Arcadia district. Stroll through traditional mountain villages like Dimitsana and Stemnitsa, visit a museum and clifftop monasteries, dip your feet in the Lousios Gorge, and savor home-style Greek cooking at a welcoming tavern. In the afternoon, we will begin our journey back to Athens.
