Additional Information

This package is insured under Public liability insurance. The Maasai tribe has been pasture-raising their livestock on the vast grasslands of eastern Mara Region, which they rightfully named ‘endless plains,’ as far back as 200 years ago, predating the inaugural visit to the area by European explorer, Austrian Oscar Baumann, in 1892. The name ‘Serengeti’ is a close approximation to the Maasai term, siringet, denoting ‘the land that stretches eternally’.

The park encompasses approximately 14,750 square kilometres (5,700 sq mi) of grassy plains, savannas, riverine forests, and woodlands. Its location is in the northwest of Tanzania, adjacent to the northern Kenyan border, where it seamlessly merges with the Maasai Mara National Reserve. On the southeast side of the park is the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and the Maswa Game Reserve lies to the southwest. The Ikorongo and Grumetri Game Reserves are on its western bounds, while the Loliondo Game Control Area is to the northeast and east. These areas collectively make up the broader Serengeti ecosystem.
