Highlights

Cusco - Kilometer 104 - Aguas Calientes

Winay Wayna - Starting the 2-day Inca Trail hike from Cusco at 4:00 am, we embark on a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Ollantaytambo for breakfast, followed by a train ride to kilometer 104, the trail’s starting point. The 15km trek along the Classic Inca Trail through the Sacred Valley features Inca sites and a variety of flora. A highlight is visiting Winay Wayna, where we enjoy a mountain-view picnic. As we pass through a lush cloud forest, participants may spot various plants, flowers, and wildlife. Arriving at the Sun Gate in the afternoon offers stunning views of Machu Picchu with fewer tourists, perfect for photos. After capturing the iconic Guard House shot, a bus takes us to Aguas Calientes, where you have free time until dinner, with optional activities like a dip in the hot springs, ending the day with an overnight stay at the hotel.

Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cusco.

Machu Picchu - On the second day, the main attraction is the magical Machu Picchu experience. Starting with a hotel pick-up, you walk to the bus station for the 05:30 am departure to Machu Picchu, a scenic 30-minute ride. Upon arrival at the sanctuary, a passport and Machu Picchu checkpoint precedes a guided tour that delves into the history, geology, architecture, and biodiversity of this new wonder of the world. The visit lasts about 2 hours, followed by an optional hike to Huaynapicchu Mountain for those who have booked this separate entrance ticket at $65 per person. After returning to Aguas Calientes, lunch is provided before heading to the train station for the journey back to Ollantaytambo. Our driver will be waiting at Ollantaytambo to take you back to Cusco, with a drop-off at your hotel around 19:30.

Jacob was the most fantastic guide! - Jacob was the most fantastic guide! He made our trip extremely special. He was very knowledgable and extremely informative throughout. We completed the two day Inca trial and originally were very nervous that we would find parts of the trial very difficult. Myself and my partner completed it with another 3 people in the group, all of us of different ages and abilities. However Jacob was fantastic at guiding us so that the trial was successful for all. He gave plenty of breaks when needed, yet still ensured it was completed at a fast enough pace to make it challengingly for those in the group who wanted that. A lunch was provided half way through the hike too- the standard was fantastic and really was very unexpected, considered it was all carried up on the hike also! As part of the 2 day Inca trail trip, our meals and accommodation for the one night was included. Both were absolutely outstanding and we did not expect this to be as high a standard. We were so delighted and after hiking all day, this was such a fantastic surprise! Again Jacob went above and beyond, bringing us directly to the accommodation and joining us for dinner. His english is outstanding and conversational skills extremely inclusive for all. For the full evening he continued telling us stories and information about the trip and Peru and really made us fall in love with Peru so much more! He created such a great positive atmosphere for the whole group and for a group who did not know each other before, Jacob ensured everyone felt happy and comfortable. We have now booked our next door with the same company again, as a result of having such a fantastic trip with our guide Jacob! I would absolutely recommend booking with AB Expeditions again HIGHLY recommend you ask if Jacob is available for your trip! He is also the most fantastic and patient photographer!

Magical Machu Picchu - It was a wonderful and almost magical experience for our family of four when we journeyed through the 7hr long Inca Trail (mostly due to my old legs) and finally arrived at the view point overlooking the mythical Machu Picchu !! We returned the 2nd day morning for a walkthrough of the town interior and it was just as special and powerful. Every corner and angle is absolutely intriguing and photogenic. Special shout out to our guide Jaime David Farfan Mejia who accompanied us through the entire journey - he is also an awesome photographer!

Awesome Machu Picchu experience! - Great experience! Very well and professionally organised. From the first meeting, to the pick up, ticketing for the train. Bernito is an excellent guide with profound knowledge and great social skills! The picnic was delicious with splendid views and great variety of food, didn’t expect that! Of course the entrance through sungate is awesome! We had all time in the world up there. The Hotel in Aguas Calientes was extra class! The bus rides up and down the next day were very convenient :) Bernito did everything in his power for us to have an amazing experience! Muchas gracias!

Best guide of Machu Picchu - We joined three tours during our time in the cusco area and Jacob is the best guide we had. He’s cheerful, knowledgeable and caring. He speaks great English and he looks after us very well, especially my 63-years-old mum. Not only did he told us stories about Machu Picchu but also Cusco and Peru. I also loved how he told us the story of Machu Picchu, clearly distinguishing between theories and facts. Hotel we stayed was simple but clean and comfortable. Oh, did I forget to mention that the all the meals were amazing? Just a last warning, the Inca trail is no joke with a lot of stairs that definitely deterred the Spanish.

Jacob the rising star - Jacob is an amazing guide. He’s Hilarious and knowledgeable. He is proud of being a Peruvian yet never forget to help and to serve. During the trail, he has been looking after us while not still give us enough room to walk on our own. It’s such a self fulfilling experience with jacob
