Highlights

Hangzhou -> Huangshan -> Mountaintop Camping.

Hangzhou - Meet up. Ride out.

Meet up with your guide in Hangzhou. Get acquainted. Depart.
The ride to Huangshan Mountain takes around 3.5 hours.

Huangshan - Yellow Mountain National Scenic Park. Ascend to ‘Jadescreen’: Cableway OR Hiking Trail.

Arrive at the Yellow Mountain National Scenic Park.
Transfer to scenic shuttle buggy, then ride to the mountain base. Start up the mountain.
Choose how you go up. Both routes lead to the same checkpoint - the Yuping ‘Jadescreen’ Building:

  1. the cable car route (roughly 12 minutes)
  2. the foot trail (roughly 3 hours)

Arrive at Jadescreen. See the Yellow mountain icon - the ‘welcoming pine’.
Rest a moment and regroup.

Mt. Huangshan - Peak trek: Lotus Peak trail OR Tiandu Peak trail.

Start along one of Yellow Mountain’s two main mountain peak routes:

  1. the Lotus Peak trail, known for varied and spectacular scenery, or;
  2. the Tiandu Peak trail, an adventurous and adrenalin-filled climb.

Which route?: Peak routes open for climbing one at a time at the discretion of park management.

Mt. Huangshan - Hundred-step Cloud Ladder Lookout Platform. Huangshan Mountaintop Sunset. Mountaintop camping.

Peak trails re-converge.
Continue forward over Aoyu Peak. Along the way at the best scenic lookout platform on the mountain, named the Hundred-step Cloud Ladder.

Finally, pass along a stretch of sky to arrive at the White Cloud scenic area. Here we set up camp.

At sunset, if visibility is good, we’ll find a good vantage point to watch the mountaintop sunset.

Spend the night on the mountain.

Mountain Sunrise -> Descent -> Hangzhou

Mt. Huangshan - Huangshan Mountain Sunrise.

Wake up at 4am and walk to the Guangming Apex to watch the mountain sunrise.

Sunrise note: specific times vary based on time of year and where you are staying/camping on the mountain.

Yungu Temple - Yungu ‘Cloud Valley Temple’ path. Descend the mountain.

Early morning, pick up and descend on the Cloud Valley Temple path (via foot or cableway).
See the ‘Buddha’s Light’ phenomenon.

Buddha’s Light: Sometimes, after rain on Huangshan there occurs a certain odd light phenomenon, known as ‘Buddha’s light’. Seeing Buddha’s light is good luck.

Huangshan - Lunch. Return to Hangzhou.

Arrive off the mountain.
Eat lunch in the foothills, then rest riding back to Hangzhou.

Hangzhou - Arrive in back in Hangzhou in the early evening.
