Meet the guide at the Cretan Spiti Travel terminal at 08:30. The journey begins with a drive to Gortyna, the Roman capital of Crete and Cyrenaica, first settled around 3200 BC. After exploring Gortyna, the tour continues through the Mesara Valley to the archaeological site of Phaistos and its palace, a key center of the Minoan civilization and the wealthiest and most powerful city in southern Crete.
Following the visit to Phaistos, the next stop is Matala, where there will be free time to swim in the crystal-clear waters and enjoy an optional lunch. The final destination is Zaros, a charming, unspoiled village renowned for its spring water, which is bottled and distributed throughout Greece. Zaros serves as an excellent base for walkers to explore the stunning natural surroundings. The village also boasts fine Byzantine monasteries and offers delicious farm-raised trout in local tavernas and at the picturesque Lake Votomos, which will be visited.
